2020 will go down in history as the most disruptive year ever for business, transforming the way people live, work and learn. The shift to online entrepreneurship is accelerating as people rethink and reshape their futures on their terms. Starting anything new can be scary, especially something as monumental as a brand new business. But I’m here to tell you that now is a really great time to reinvent yourself. And the way to start a business is to START a business. Period.

You can’t win the lottery if you never buy a ticket.
You can’t travel the world if you never get on the plane.
You can’t start a business if you never write a business plan.

It’s easy to look at others and what they’ve accomplished and say it’s unattainable, until you dial it back and remember they also once had to take a first step into the great unknown.

I get questions all the time on how people can start their own businesses and claim their own particular brand of freedom. I get questions all the time on how I ditched convention and started my business when the odds were seemingly stacked against me.

It’s simple. I decided. I decided that this is what I wanted and I wouldn’t accept anything less. I never gave up and I always believed that I could have whatever I wanted.

Don’t get me wrong, the Universe does a lot of heavy lifting for me, but it can’t do its part if I don’t do mine. And my part is being really clear on what I want, stepping up powerfully, and doing the work.

So if you want to start a business, the first step is deciding that’s what you want and that’s what you’ll have… because there’s no other option. And there’s no other time.

Finding Your Niche

Starting your online business begins with getting creative and deciding what you want to do. Easier said than done, right?

Ask yourself, what am I good at? What brings me joy? What are my desires? What lights me up? What’s important to me? Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple. Your soul has a purpose that will rise up if you ask it to.

A business can have many forms. I’m an online business coach. I used to own a social media agency. There are mediums, psychics, healers, web designers, graphic designers, copy writers, accountants, bookkeepers. There are so many different business models built on many different ideas. Whatever it is that you feel passionate about doing, there is a way for you to monetize it online. But first you need to figure out how you want to serve others?

Starting Your Business in the Right Way

My clients are making MORE money right now because they’re pivoting, serving, and in control of their own income.⁣ They’re doing it because they are putting in the work.

How many times have you heard this? “Anyone with a laptop can start a business.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Technically? True. But in practical terms? Oh-so false.⠀

If every person who owned a laptop could magically whip up an intentional, manageable, and profitable business so they could quit their 9-5, travel the world, make more money, or change a metric ton of lives, don’t you think they would?

Nobody gets stuck on why they want to start a business. I bet you could list 23 reasons you want to run your own business right this very second.

It’s the HOW that has people stuck.

Aspiring entrepreneurs. Existing entrepreneurs. It doesn’t matter. Very few people who start their own online businesses know what steps to take to get their business off the ground and turn a consistent profit.⠀⠀⠀⠀

If it were only as simple as tossing open your laptop, putting up a website, and voila, look at all the money flowing in, literally everyone would have their own business.

But it’s not that simple. You need a framework, structure and systems to start and scale an online business. 

You have to work to establish an online presence.
You have to work to master your mindset.
You have to work to create offers that sell.
You have to work to identify, attract and sign ideal clients.
You have to work to make money with social media. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You have to work to set up systems that support your business.
You have to work to earn passive income.
You have to work to scale your business to six figures and beyond.

And the only way to do this is to set up your business in an intentional, manageable and profitable way right out of the gate. And if you do, you’ll avoid the overwhelm, the hair on fire and the rollercoaster of inconsistent income.
