I boarded a one-way flight to Bali when I was 22 years old with $800 in my pocket.

In this episode I’ll be breaking down the exact steps I took to scale my business, as well as the lessons I learned on resilience, determination, and strategy along the way. 

(02:00) Just like you, I was told I needed to go and get a job or a graduate degree to succeed. Well here’s the thing… neither of those options felt good to me. I started off thinking, “I’ll be a travel blogger!” Before realizing that there’s not a huge amount of money in that. 

(02:41) So instead I lied to my parents (told my mom I had $3k… when I actually only had $800 – sorry mom!) and headed for Bali, making $12 an hour writing IG captions.

… I had no idea what was to come

(03.35) Step 1:

When I was getting started, I worked for free to build up a testimonial bank. From writing IG captions to pinning things on Pinterest, I built up a small but thriving client base on my social media expertise alone.

(04:00) Step 2:

Intrigued where my expertise could take me, I signed up for 6 weeks of private business coaching. (04:45) This helped me to niche down and work solely in my zone of genius – a social media management specialist.

It’s much easier to make it as a specialist than a generalist! (05:01)

(05:03) Step 3:

Now I knew my worth and what I could do for my clients, I put my prices up from $400-$600 a month to $1,500+ a month. (05:29) My social media clients and digital nomad friends started asking me, “Hey Sabrina, how are you building this business so quickly?”…

(05:58) Step 4:

My coaching biz was born! How? Because I stuck with what I knew.

For me, I was already known for my skills in the social media space – so I built my first coaching package round that. (06:31) My first social media coaching package was 6 weeks of one-on-one coaching for $997.

(07:20) Step 5:

Next thing I knew, I was approached by a Forbes contributor! Press is an amazing way to get your biz out there if you know how to leverage it.

(08:30) I told myself that the Forbes article would go viral. I started mentally and logistically preparing for that. I built a website, I started an email list, I built a group program that could be launched right after the Forbes article. 

If you truly want something, you have to make space for it. You’ll never get anything you want unless you decide it. (10:03)

(12:25) Step 6:

Leveraging the Forbes article, I created a low-cost group program that was kinda a ‘no-brainer’ purchase – 8 weeks for $497. I made $70,000 from that launch alone.

(13:25) But I didn’t stop there! In full flow, I created the Bali Mastermind – a 1 year Mastermind followed by a 5 day retreat for $20,000. I marketed the retreat with a beautiful drone video of the Bali landscape, which I dropped online like Beyonce dropping an album

(15:55) We sold out on day one… So what did I do? I doubled the capacity and turned the Bali Mastermind into a $500,000 launch.

(17:55) Step 7:
After all that growth, I needed to work smart. That’s when I started looking into hiring, automation, systems, and anything that would allow me to stay in my zone of genius.

(19:01) Ask yourself what your next level self would do at every stage. If you’re not already thinking big-picture… you’ll never get there. 

If you want to get to your next level self, you need to start making decisions as if you’re already there. (19:20)
